The Central Virginia Housing Coalition (CVHC) is all about affordable housing! They offer programs for low to moderate income families so that they can get the help they need to buy or stay in their homes. They offer education, counseling, access to loans, home repair and maintenance, and many other programs. These programs provide more families with the ability to be able to buy their first home or find affordable housing.
CVHC is hosting an Affordable Housing Week for the Planning 16 District of Virginia beginning on June 3rd thru June 10th 2011. This includes Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania County, Stafford County, King George and Caroline County. Housing organizations have been searching for new and better ways to increase the awareness and the education of the importance of affordable housing. CVHC intends to address several significant and critical issues concerning educating the public, city officials, regulatory agencies, environmental agencies, educational institutions, the health care industry, policy makers, the business community, financial institutions and all other interested parties. The event will include a variety of activities including a Kick-off Breakfast, open houses and ground breaking tours of affordable housing venues, a Housing Resource Fair, and much more.
The intention is to provide leadership training to facilitate and build skills in advocating Affordable Housing. CVHC wants the public to see, hear and understand the benefits of Affordable Housing to the community as a whole and to engage political and community leaders of Planning District 16 to take action. They want the public to understand the importance of an advocacy organization to preserve, protect and expand affordable housing opportunities. Affordable Housing should be at the top of city, county and regulatory agendas. They also want to build alliances with local businesses, environmental, healthcare, and educational and community organizations.
The Central Virginia Housing Coalition’s goal is to provide a simple, straightforward and understandable definition of ‘Affordable Housing’. They will create an updated and thorough affordable housing resource list from those individuals involved with the housing fair. This list will include contact information and a brief description of what services they offer. CVHC will make this list available to the general public and other resource organizations via our web site.
