Richmond’s Affordable Housing Awareness Week Marks its 7th Year

The Partnership for Housing Affordability is hosting the seventh annual Affordable Housing Awareness Week from April 25-May 2nd. This year, sixteen Richmond area non-profit organizations will join forces to host a week-long series of events designed to increase awareness about affordable housing issues in the Richmond region and to help our neighbors in need.

Throughout the week, Richmond area volunteers will be rolling up their sleeves at dozens of project sites, helping to build and repair homes as they participate in “A Day’s Work for Workforce Housing.”

Other events include:

Friday, April 25th – A “Rock the Block Party” in Richmond’s Blackwell area, which will recognize the progress made in this neighborhood over the last decade.

Monday, April 28th – Better Housing Coalition will dedicate “Somanath Seniors,” their newest phase of Beckstoffer’s Mill named in honor of recently retired BHC President T.K. Somanath, who lead BHC for 22 years and served the Richmond region for more than four decades.

Thursday, May 1st – “Walking in Their Shoes,” a homeless simulation in which community leaders take the opportunity to assume the identity of someone who might be experiencing homelessness. They will be asked to navigate the many challenges faced by our region’s homeless population daily, including finding food, shelter, transportation, and necessary resources.
