CAN Promotes Affordable Housing in the Washington, D.C. /NOVA Area

The Collaborative Communications Campaign (CAN) recently announced the 2013 CAN Parade of Homes, in which selected affordable communities will open their doors and invite the community and the press to come in! The tour will take place on Saturday, May 18, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

CAN is a unique regional communications campaign supported by a grant from the United Way of the National Capital Area and convened by BB&T Community Development Banking, as well as three regional housing organizations – the Coalition for Nonprofit Housing and Economic Development, the Housing Association of Nonprofit Developers and the Northern Virginia Affordable Housing Alliance.
The need for housing affordability in the Washington, D.C./NOVA Area is great – and growing. The George Mason Center for Regional Analysis predicts that over the next two decades, 731,457 new housing units will be needed to house the workforce. Many of these new workers will have jobs that provide services essential to sustain the regional economy, but pay less than the area median income. This prompts the question – “Where will the region’s jobs go to sleep at night?”.
