For over thirty years, the Virginia Housing Coalition’s Annual Awards event has been the gathering place to celebrate accomplishments, identify challenges, and encourage positive action in the affordable housing field. In 2013 the Virginia Housing Coalition will host a luncheon on June 20th to continue this important tradition. This year, the luncheon will feature nationally recognized community building expert, Garland Yates, Interim Director of the Neighborhood Funders Group.
The Neighborhood Funders Group is a membership association of grantmaking institutions, whose mission is to strengthen the capacity of organized philanthropy to understand and support community-based efforts to organize and improve the economic and social fabric of low-income urban neighborhoods and rural communities.
In his current and past leadership roles, Garland Yates has demonstrated dedication to techniques and strategies that build the capacity of low-income communities by developing place-based comprehensive community initiatives. He has extensive experience in training grass roots leaders in small communities, as well as the design and implementation of resident engagement strategies.
Prior to NFG, he was a Senior Associate of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, a private philanthropy dedicated to helping build better futures for disadvantaged children in the United States.
The Luncheon will be held in the ballroom of the Greater Richmond Convention Center and also feature recognition of the Innovations in Leadership Awards, along with recognitions of lifetime achievement through new inductions into the VHC Housing Hall of Fame.
Sponsorship opportunities are now available for the event and ticket sales will begin in May. Mark your calendar for this “don’t miss” event. For more information, contact email@example.com.
