According to a new statewide poll sponsored by the Campaign for Housing and Civic Engagement (CHACE), Virginians widely agree that ample housing opportunities are important for their community. The poll, conducted by The Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University, also shows large support for specific policies that promote safe and affordable homes.

Here are just a few of the findings:
  • 82% strongly believe that people who work in their community should be able to find a home there.
  • 58% believe that ending homelessness is an important government priority.
  • 78% support the Virginia Housing Trust Fund.
  • 61% would support a minimal 50 cent surcharge on their utility bill to help fund energy efficiency upgrades for low-income families.
